Miracles

Last week a mundane Monday took a rather strange, and potentially scary turn. After leaving my apartment for the morning to head to class, I noticed my front left tire was low. This was not just the low where it needs a little bit of air and things will be fine. This was the type of low where I could easily push down on the tire without really trying. Annoyed because I really needed to get to class I headed to my nearest gas station as I had a few minutes only to see it was frustratingly out of order.

I live really close to campus so I carefully drove the rest of the way there and realized I was going to have to do something about that after class. Which when I had a million things to do for classes and midterms to study for was annoying and, with my anxiety, extremely stressful. Classes went by very quickly that day and I don't know what made me think of it but during my last class I pulled out my phone and looked up companies that would refill your tires with air for free.

The top on the list was Discount Tires, which I had totally forgotten existed as my original plan was to take the car to Jiffy Lube. Feeling rather proud of myself for being a responsible adult I drove to discount tires and told them I just needed the air checked in my tires. The guy at the front desk convinced me to let him look at my car and I expected him to just tell me what I already knew and fill my tires up and send me on my way. That was not the case.

He circled my car once and then tested all the tread on the tires. The news wasn't good on my problem tire as he said that there was hardly any tread left and it really needed to be replaced. My back tires were okay, and I thought I would need one tire replaced. When he got to the front right tire he pointed out obvious cracking in the tire stating, "It's a miracle this tire hasn't blown out on you yet."

What followed was whirlwind of calls to my parents stating that I unexpectedly needed two new tires and that I could have easily gotten in a terrible car accident at any point between my return from Austria and now. The thought of what could have been brought a lot of emotions to the surface because the next day I planned to drive the seventy or so miles to Layton to attend RootsTech in Salt Lake City. The man at Discount Tires told me with the way my tire was cracked it probably wouldn't have made the trip.

I thought back to that morning about how I had been so irritated at the free air pump at the Chevron for being out of order. However, that out of order sign possibly saved my life. That out of order sign was nothing short of a miracle. The fact that I even noticed the slightly flat tire and took the time to look at it was a miracle. I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father because I know it was Him was behind this. At the time of writing this, I have driven back and forth to Salt Lake nearly every day this week without incident thanks to the miracle of last Monday.
