Temple Challenge!

So in my young single adult ward they talked about the importance of temples and how amazing it is that we can receive revelation there. It's also amazing just how much peace we can feel as we enter the temple. Just sitting on the grounds of the temple allows us to feel that same peace. Elder Richard G. Scott has said:

"Because I love you, I am going to speak to you heart to heart, without mincing words. I have seen that many times individuals have made great sacrifices to go to a distant temple. But when a temple is built close by, within a short time, many do not visit it regularly. I have suggestion: When a temple is conveniently nearby, small things may interrupt your plans to go to the temple. Set specific goals, considering your circumstances, of when you can and will participate in temple ordinances. Then do not allow anything to interfere with that plan. This pattern will guarantee that those who live in the shadow of a temple will be as blessed as those who plan far ahead and make a long trip to the temple."

I love this quote a lot, because I have realized that in my life it's always the little things that prevent me from attending the temple. So I have made a goal to attend the temple at least once a week and have tried my best to make sure that nothing interferes with that plan. And life happens, it really does. But the promise of the temple can be found in the title of the talk that the above quote comes from: Temple Worship: The Source of Strength and Power in Times of Need (to read the full talk click here.) It is so incredibly true, the temple is a source of strength during times of need. I am so grateful that I live within an hour of seven temples, seven! The temple has provided me with so much peace in my life, especially with the trials that I am facing right now I don't really know where I would be without being able to attend the temple regularly.

So I have felt very inspired to invite all of my readers to do something that I would like to call the August Temple Challenge!   Basically the challenge is this:

  • Go to the temple at least once in the month of August
  • When you go to the temple take a selfie (or get someone to take a picture) of you in front of the temple.
  • Post that picture on social media and bear your testimony about how the temple has personally blessed your life. If you want use the hashtag #augusttemplechallenge
My other purpose in inviting all of you to do this challenge is there is a lot of negativity on the internet these days, so I think it would be awesome to see tons of pictures with people in front of the temple explaining what these holy buildings mean to them. Please share this post and get more people in on the challenge! Any cool experiences? Please comment down below! I would love to know about them!

I am a college student at Brigham Young University trying to wade through this crazy thing we call life with my mental illness. I have decided to share my story of trying to deal with mental illness in the hopes that it may help others.
