Strong Foundations

So last week in church one of the speakers gave a talk about the story behind the foundation of the Salt Lake City temple. The original stones that they used cracked which wasn't ideal because they wanted to build an all granite temple. So they had to start all over and replace the cracked stones with stronger ones to support the weight of an all granite temple. It worked because the Salt Lake City Temple is still standing today. As the speaker talked about this I had the question pop into my head, "Is my foundation strong enough?". And I realized how applicable the Salt Lake City temple was to my every day life, the weight of things that go on in the world and in our lives is a lot to handle. So the question I asked myself is, "Is my foundation strong enough to handle the weight of the things that come into my life?" That is a question that I have started asking myself every day. Life is tough, and there are a lot of things that are hard to handle. But it is possible for every single one of us to be as strong as the Salt Lake Temple is. And like the Salt Lake City temple it takes time, it took them forty years to build that temple. And I know for me and my strong foundation in the gospel it's going to take a lifetime to make sure mine is strong enough to face the trials that come into my life. And I've realized that it's by doing those small and simple things that we can help build our foundations, reading our scriptures, praying, attending church and attending the temple as often as we can. One of my favorite scriptures is Helaman 5:12, "...remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation..." I know that if we build our foundations upon Christ then we will be able to withstand the trials that enter into our lives.
